Send Us Your Ideas !!!
Do you have an idea that will help ease congestion or improve air quality in Hampton Roads?
The Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization (HRTPO) is responsible for project selection and allocation of funds under two federal programs – the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ) and the Regional Surface Transportation Program (RSTP). Projects selected through a competitive process will receive allocations of CMAQ ($15.08 million)or RSTP ($36.39 million) funds for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025.
The CMAQ program provides federal funding to states and localities for transportation projects and programs that help improve air quality and reduce traffic congestion. The type of projects that are eligible for CMAQ funding are those that are intended to reduce emissions in the region, either through direct means (such as converting to low-emission vehicles) or through indirect means (such as traffic signal improvements that improve vehicle flow and reduce congestion, or outreach programs to promote carpooling).
RSTP funds are funds that are apportioned to specific regions within Virginia, and can be used for projects to preserve and improve the conditions and performance on any Federal-aid (Federally funded)highway, bridge and tunnel projects on any public road, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, and transit capital projects, including intercity bus terminals.
Candidate projects and programs may be submitted by the public to the HRTPO for eligibility review. All project ideas sent in by the public will be acknowledged and forwarded to the appropriate locality, local transit
