VOLUMES, SPEEDS, AND CONGESTION DRAFT REPORT RELEASED

HRTPO annually prepares a report detailing average weekday traffic volumes for major roadways in Hampton Roads.  This document – the Volumes, Speeds, and Congestion on Major Roadways in Hampton Roads – continues that effort by detailing regional traffic volumes for the years 2010-2015.  The traffic volume data included in this document is collected from a variety of sources, including the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), regional bridge and tunnel facilities, and tolled facilities.  Data is also included from localities in Hampton Roads that maintain their own traffic count programs, including Hampton, Newport News, Suffolk, and Virginia Beach.

Since 2012, HRTPO has also included in this document an analysis of roadway speed data collected by INRIX.  INRIX collects this speed data using millions of probe vehicles, including taxis, delivery vans, fleet vehicles, trucks, and smartphone users.  Peak period roadway congestion levels are also highlighted in the report with data and maps.

The Volumes, Speeds, and Congestion on Major Roadways in Hampton Roads draft report is available for public review and comment through November 23, 2016.  You may access the draft report by clicking on the following link:
