HRTPO Expands Boundaries - Includes Franklin and Southampton County in Voting Membership

HRTPO Expands Boundaries/Includes Franklin and Southampton County in Voting Membership

By Kendall Miller, Public Involvement and Title VI Administrator

On September 27, 2106, the HRTPO requested that the Commonwealth of Virginia approve its request for expansion  of its metropolitan planning area boundary and a re-designation of the HRTPO.  This request proposed the inclusion of portions of Southampton County and the City of Franklin East of Route 258 and proposed that the HRTPO voting membership be expanded to include both localities as well.

In a letter dated November 15, 2016, Aubrey L. Layne, Virginia Secretary of Transportation, on behalf of Governor Terry McAuliffe, approved the request.  The HRTPO welcomes both the City of Franklin and Southampton County into its boundary and voting membership.
