  1. 1.     Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by the Chair at 10:33 a.m.

 

  1. 2.     Approval of Agenda

Mr. Farmer asked to remove Items 14-J and 14-L from the Consent Agenda.  He stated that Item 14-L will likely be on the January 2013 HRTPO agenda.  The Agenda was approved with the requested changes.

 

WORKSHOP AGENDA

  1. 3.     Commonwealth Transportation Board Member Comments and Updates

Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) member Mr. Layne noted that the 2012 Governor’s Transportation Conference would be held on December 5 – 7, 2012.

 

  1. 4.     Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation Comments and Updates

Ms. Drake reported that the inaugural passenger train to Norfolk was set for December 11, 2012, and that the passengers on that train would include the Governor and the entire Amtrak Board.  She also stated that the first regular train on December 12, 2012 had sold out, so Amtrak had added four more cars to allow more people to ride that first train.  Ms. Drake distributed a brochure on the new train service.  Ms. Drake also distributed a copy of the Statewide Transit and Transportation Demand Management Plan to be presented under Item 10.

 

  1. 5.     Military Liaisons Comments and Updates

Captain Culler noted that additional ships were in port for the holidays and that there would be an impact on traffic.  He also stated that the Navy is excited about the results of the HRTPO Military Survey.

12.  Public Comment Period

A resident of Newport News stated that the Peninsula is not getting its money’s worth from the HRTPO.  As examples of this, he mentioned the HRBT versus Third Crossing issue and I-64 versus Route 460, noting his opinion that Route 460 is currently underused.

There were no submitted written public comment meeting.

 

14.  Approval of Consent Items

Agenda items under the Consent Agenda were approved by the HRTPO Board, excluding Items 14-J and 14-L.
