HRTPO staff regularly highlights a project that is currently being implemented within the Hampton Roads region. The Cunningham Drive Sidewalk project in the City of Hampton will provide a five-foot wide sidewalk from Executive Boulevard to Todds Lane.
Located in the Coliseum Central area of the City where residential, business, and shopping amenities are within walking distance, the sidewalk will provide better access and safety for pedestrians. The 1.6-mile stretch of sidewalk will bridge the gap between these two locations and also provide a wider six-foot sidewalk section over I-64. The addition of this sidewalk will greatly benefit both residents and businesses as Coliseum Central is home to the Sentara CarePlex Hospital, Peninsula Town Center, many restaurants, and several residential complexes.
The cost estimate for the project is approximately $1.07 million and is currently under construction. Completion of the project is expected to be in July 2024.
