Hampton Roads 2040 Rural Long-Range Transportation Plan Draft Report

The Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization (HRTPO) has produced the Draft Hampton Roads 2040 Rural Long-Range Transportation Plan (RLRTP).

The Hampton Roads 2040 RLRTP covers the rural localities of Southampton County and the City of Franklin (see map below), and is an update to the previous 2035 RLRTP.  The RLRTP is part of an ongoing statewide effort to create and maintain regional transportation plans in rural areas that complement those in Virginia’s metropolitan and small urban areas.  The RLRTP looks at improvements that can be made in the near-term and in the future, as far as the year 2040, in order to assess potential impacts of population and employment growth on the transportation system in rural areas.

Each RLRTP is developed as a blueprint, or vision plan, to address needs of the transportation system, regardless of anticipated funding availability.  This regional plan can then be used by local, regional, and state agencies to identify rural transportation funding priorities.

The draft plan is currently under public review and comment until Friday, July 28, 2017. Please submit comments to Leonardo Pineda at lpineda@hrtpo.org or by mail to 723 Woodlake by July 28, 2017.
