Action Summary: HRTPO Board Meeting July 21, 2011

The Regional Board Room, 723 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, Virginia

1.    CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order by the Chair at approximately 10:50 a.m.

2.    PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD
A private citizen from the City of Norfolk addressed the HRTPO Board regarding the region’s tunnels and container ships; a private citizen from the City of Portsmouth addressed the HRTPO Board regarding the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel project; a private citizen from the City of Norfolk addressed the HRTPO Board regarding the Midtown Tunnel/Downtown Tunnel/MLK Expansion project; a private citizen from the City of Portsmouth addressed the HRTPO Board regarding the Midtown Tunnel/Downtown Tunnel/MLK Expansion project; and a private citizen from the City of Norfolk addressed the HRTPO Board regarding transportation funding.

3.    COMMONWEALTH TRANSPORTATION BOARD MEMBER COMMENT PERIOD

Mr. Aubrey Layne and Mr. W. Sheppard Miller addressed the HRTPO Board regarding the business terms of the Midtown Tunnel/Downtown Tunnel/MLK Expansion project as well as status updates on the Governor’s priorities, rail projects, and the impact of the debt ceiling could have on the Commonwealth’s GARVEE bonds.

4.    SUBMITTED PUBLIC COMMENTS
Submitted written public comments were provided to the HRTPO Board.

5.    APPROVAL OF AGENDA

The Agenda was approved.

The HRTPO Board authorized the Executive Director to sign the Certification of the HRTPO Transportation Planning and Programming Process.

10.    HRTPO 2011 Annual Meeting: Officer Elections

The HRTPO Board directed the Nominating Committee to assemble and recommend candidates for the HRTPO Board officer positions for the October 2011 HRTPO Board annual meeting.
