The HRTPO staff has been working with regional stakeholders over the past two years researching methods, collecting data, defining a common land use classification system, to generate a Regional Land Use Map for Hampton Roads. These research efforts were documented in a research scan, approved by the HRTPO Board in July 2010. The Regional Land Use Research Scan is available at:

Using the strategies identified in the scan with the data collected from stakeholders, the HRTPO generated the regional land use map. The map is documented in the Hampton Roads Regional Land Use Map report, approved by the HRTPO Board in June 2011. The report is available at:

To provide access to the regional land use map for the public and stakeholders, the HRTPO Staff developed a Regional Land Use Map Visualization tool. This tool provides the public an interactive medium to review, assess, and get informed about the future land use plans for the Hampton Roads region.
