HRTPO Assists Isle of Wight County with Comprehensive Plan Update

Benns Grant Boulevard in Isle of Wight CountyHRTPO recently completed the Isle of Wight County Transportation Study.  The purpose of this report is to assist Isle of Wight County officials with the transportation section of their Comprehensive Plan update.  A Comprehensive Plan is a policy document that provides direction for policy makers to guide growth and development by providing the long-range vision, goals, and strategies of their communities.  Every Virginia locality is required by state law to have a Comprehensive Plan.  Isle of Wight County -- which adopted their most recent Comprehensive Plan in 2008 – is in the process of updating their Comprehensive Plan.  More information on Isle of Wight’s Comprehensive Plan Update is available at http://www.co.isle-of-wight.va.us/plan.

The Isle of Wight County Transportation Study is broken down into separate sections for current and future conditions.  Each of the following transportation features is examined in this report:

  • Bicycle and Pedestrian Accommodations
  • Rail
  • Bridges
  • Freight
  • Airports
  • Public Transportation
  • Resiliency/Sea Level Rise
