HRTPO and Port Collaboration Shared with the Nation via FHWA Webinar

Jeff Florin (Port of Virginia) and Rob Case (HRTPO) summarized the collaboration of the Virginia Port Authority (VPA) and HRTPO on freight efforts for the most recent session (March 18, 2015) of FHWA’s “Talking Freight” webinar series. 

Mr. Robert Case, Principal Transportation Engineer, and Mr. Jeff Florin, Vice President of Port Development, presented their summaries to an internet audience of approximately 200 participants. (Click image to see .pdf of presentation.)

Rob Case presented the work of HRTPO in:

  • Creating the Freight Transportation Advisory Committee (FTAC), staffed by VPA, with private sector freight representatives to advise the HRTPO Board on freight issues
  • Identifying and testing projects to help freight move by highway and rail via capacity analysis, delay calculation, scenario building, and model forecasting
  • Promoting freight projects via the HRTPO Project Prioritization Tool 

 

Jeff Florin presented the work of VPA in:

  • Master planning
  • Partnering with railroads, trucking, federal agencies, the HRTPO, VDOT, and localities
  • Seeking infrastructure grants
