Public Notice: State of Transportation in Hampton Roads 2023: DRAFT Report

The Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization (HRTPO), the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for the Hampton Roads metropolitan planning area, has completed the DRAFT State of Transportation in Hampton Roads 2023 Report.

The Hampton Roads State of Transportation report details the current status of all facets of the transportation system in Hampton Roads, including air, rail, water, and highways.  Many aspects of the highway system are highlighted, including roadway usage, bridge conditions, congestion, commuting characteristics, roadway safety, truck data, transit usage, active transportation, highway funding, tolling, and operations.  Historical trends and new developments are highlighted, and Hampton Roads is compared with other large metropolitan areas.

This report is updated annually and is produced as part of the region’s Congestion Management Process (CMP).  The Congestion Management Process is an on-going process that identifies, develops, evaluates, and implements transportation strategies to enhance mobility regionwide.  This report is also produced as part of the HRTPO’s Performance Management effort.
