HRPDC is proud to announce that we have earned Model Level recognition through the Elizabeth River Project’s River Star Businesses program. The honor was celebrated at
the annual River Star Recognition Luncheon, hosted in partnership with Inside Business on January 29, 2026, at the Chesapeake Conference Center.
The River Star Businesses program recognizes voluntary efforts in pollution prevention and habitat restoration across the Elizabeth River watershed. This year’s special edition of Inside Business highlighted a record 168 participating facilities, whose collective efforts since 1997 have reduced 395 million pounds of pollution and restored or conserved 2,604 acres of wildlife habitat.
HRPDC joined the program in 2019 at the Commitment Level and advanced to Achievement Level in 2022. Reaching Model Level reflects the full scope of our work: from our sustainable “Beyond Parking” lot and greening projects along an industrial waterway, to robust education and outreach initiatives through askHRgreen.org.
This recognition also reflects the power of regional collaboration. By bringing together local governments, community partners, and stakeholders, HRPDC helps turn shared goals into meaningful action that protects our waterways, promotes sustainability, and strengthens Hampton Roads.
