As the holiday season approaches, we are reminded of the importance of kindness and giving back to our community. This time of year, giving a little hope and support to families in need can make all the difference. In Hampton Roads, many neighbors face financial challenges due to unexpected circumstances. A sudden illness, injury, or family loss can leave resources stretched thin, with families forced to make difficult choices. No one should have to choose between a doctor’s visit and paying their water bill or worry about losing access to vital services, especially during the holidays.

Adopt-a-Drop_babyFor 25 years, the Help 2 Others (H2O) Program has provided critical support to local families experiencing financial hardship. Now, we’re asking for your help to keep this program strong. H2O assists Hampton Roads residents at risk of losing access to water and wastewater services. This support, made possible through the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission (HRPDC), HRSD, and The Salvation Army, provides eligible residents with one-time financial assistance of up to $500 for their water and wastewater bills.

This year, we invite residents and businesses to “Adopt a Drop” to help neighbors in need. A donation of $10, $20, or $50 might seem small, but for a family in crisis, it can mean the difference between having clean water or going without. Giving is easy: donations to H2O can be made through Facebook, PayPal, Venmo, credit card, or by check. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, all contributions to Hampton Roads Help 2 Others are tax-deductible. Plus, thanks to the unique partnership between HRPDC, HRSD, and The Salvation Army, 100% of every donation goes directly to covering the water or wastewater bill of someone in need within the local area.

This holiday season, join us in making a difference through the Adopt a Drop campaign. Even a small donation helps keep essential services connected for a family in Hampton Roads. Your “drop in the bucket” can add up to real impact for neighbors facing tough times. Every dollar stays within Hampton Roads, supporting our own community.

Thank you for considering a donation to Help 2 Others this holiday season. With your help, we can continue to make a difference—one drop at a time.
