DRAFT James City County/Williamsburg/York County Comprehensive Transportation Study Report

The Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization (HRTPO), the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for the Hampton Roads metropolitan planning area, has completed the DRAFT James City County/Williamsburg/York County Comprehensive Transportation Study Report.

The purpose of this study is to prepare a sub-regional transportation network analysis that James City County, Williamsburg, and York County officials will use in their Comprehensive Plans. A Comprehensive Plan is a policy document that provides direction for policy makers to guide growth and development by providing the long-range vision, goals, and strategies of their communities. Because of the link between these communities, James City County, Williamsburg, and York County officials are coordinating the timing of their Comprehensive Plan updates, with all three jurisdictions updating their Comprehensive Plans in 2012.

This report is broken down into sections for each of the following transportation modes: Highway, Public Transportation, Intercity Passenger Rail, Bicycle and Pedestrian, and Air Travel. Both the current and future conditions are examined for each of these transportation modes.

All interested parties are encouraged to review the draft report and send comments to Mr. Keith Nichols at knichols@hrpdcva.gov or by mail to 723 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, Virginia 23320. The deadline for comments on this draft report is February 15th, 2012.
